About the Picosecond Laser
The Picosecond Laser is a platform for removing tattoos and pigmented lesions, with ultra-short pulses of 750 picoseconds. At such short durations the energy acts photoacoustically: the shockwave shatters the pigment into fine particles that the body clears naturally, without significant heating of the surrounding tissue. Compared with Q-switched nanosecond lasers, the finer fragmentation means fewer sessions and a reduced risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, according to the manufacturer's data, with treatment possible on all Fitzpatrick skin types.
The two wavelengths cover superficial and deep pigment, including the blue and green inks that are difficult for conventional lasers. Energy reaches 500 mJ per pulse, the spot is adjustable between 2 and 10 mm, the repetition rate between 2 and 10 Hz, and the flat-top beam with its 20-lens array distributes the energy uniformly across the whole spot. The LIOB effect, laser-induced optical breakdown, creates micro-zones that stimulate collagen and elastin, so the device also covers rejuvenation protocols: carbon peel, acne scars, pores and radiance.
Key features
- 750 ps, photoacoustic mechanism. Pigment shattered into fine particles, with no thermal effect on the neighbouring tissue.
- Two wavelengths. Multi-colour tattoos and pigment at different depths.
- 500 mJ, spot of 2 to 10 mm. From eyebrows to large tattoos.
- Flat-top beam. Uniform energy, protection of the epidermis.
- LIOB effect. Rejuvenation, carbon peel and acne scars on the same device.
- Articulated arm and quick-access modules. Precise handling and simple servicing.
Applications
The equipment is indicated for removing multi-colour tattoos, permanent make-up and eyebrow tattoos, for melasma, freckles, sun spots, nevus of Ota and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, plus carbon peel and rejuvenation protocols. It is aimed at aesthetic clinics, dermatology practices and studios specialised in tattoo removal.
Frequently asked questions about picosecond laser tattoo removal
How many sessions does a tattoo need?
It depends on size, colours, pigment depth and how old the tattoo is. Typical picosecond laser protocols run 4 to 8 sessions, 6 to 8 weeks apart, fewer than with nanosecond lasers. Dense professional tattoos may require additional sessions.
Can coloured inks be treated?
Yes. The two wavelengths cover the spectrum of common inks, including the blue and green that respond poorly to conventional lasers. Light colours are assessed at the initial consultation.
What is a carbon peel?
A rejuvenation protocol in which a carbon mask applied to the skin is broken up by laser pulses. The procedure cleans the pores, reduces sebum and evens out skin tone, with no downtime. It is one of the most requested treatments on picosecond platforms.
